How to prepare for MAT
What is MAT
MAT stands for Management Aptitude Test. This is an admission test to get admission to MBA colleges. The exam is conducted four times each year for more than 400+ colleges. The entrance test is a computer-based test undertaken by AIMA(All India Management Association). The colleges targeted are not creamy.
To register for MAT exam, the candidate has to visit the official website of AIMA. The candidate can apply for the exam twice. You can apply for MAT with initial fees of Rs 1650-/- and to apply for the second time you have to pay an amount of Rs 1100-/-. A total of 7 institutes can be applied through a single test.
You can register online with a Credit card/Debit Card, Net Banking, and UPI.
Scoring Pattern and Highlights
MAT is considered way less difficult than exams like CAT, CMAT, XAT, SNAP, and others. Test duration is of 150 minutes with 200 objective questions.
The exam comprises of 5 sections: Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis and Sufficiency, Intelligence and Critical Reasoning, Indian and Global Environment.
MAT scoring is unique and they display scores out of 800 not 200 marks. Each correct answer gives you +1 and each wrong answer is penalized with -.25 marks.
Most importantly the cut-off is prepared from 4 sections only. The Indian and Global Environment is not taken into the merit list.
How to prepare for MAT
Over the years, the testing pattern for MAT has not changed. Moreover, the difficulty of the MAT exam is easy to moderate. Since the colleges taking the MAT score are not creamy so the selection process is not very tedious as well.
MAT can be prepared using mock tests, previous year exams, and keeping the previous year’s papers with you.
The focus should be on the 4 sections Language Comprehension; Data Analysis & Data Sufficiency; Intelligence & Critical Reasoning; and Mathematical skills as they take cut-off. The Indian and Global Environment is not scoring and can be given by reading a few books and the latest current affairs.
How to Apply
Anyone who has a graduate degree can apply for MAT exam. MAT can be filled through online form only by visiting on AIMA website.
The exam can be filled 4 times in a year. Depending on the preparation a candidate has gone through.
To fill the form:
- A candidate needs to create a new login id.
- After Login the application form is to be filled.
- Upload photograph(Size should not increase 75 kb and not less than 20kb) and signature(size should not increase by 50kb and less than 5 kb).
- Make payment through any digital platform be it Credit/Debit Card, UPI or Net Banking.
- View the final application.
