• The Union Government has extended the deadline for filing tax returns for 2018-19 fiscal by two months till September 30.
    The reason for the extension is constraints because of the Covid-19 induced lockdown. The Central Board of Direct Taxes has extended the deadline for the third time to September 30.   • Union Environment Minister of India Prakash Javadekar attended the 6th BRICS Environment Ministers’ Meeting.
    The meeting was attended by the Environment Ministers of the five BRICS countries, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa through video conference. it had been chaired by the present BRICS President Russia. India will assume the BRICS Presidency in 2021.
  • The 15th Finance Commission had established an eight-member High-Level Group on Agricultural Exports headed by the Chairman of ITC, Sanjiv Puri.
    It was established to recommend performance incentives for States to encourage agricultural exports. The group has recently submitted a report that recommended a State-led Export Plan for a crop Value chain cluster. It also suggested to concentrate on 22 crop value chains.
  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a USD 200 million deal with the Reliance Bangladesh LNG and Power Limited (RBLPL).
    Under the deal, Reliance power would build and operate a 718-megawatt combined-cycle power station in Bangladesh. USD 100 million would be provided by the ADB while the other 100 million would be sourced from the Leading Asia’s Private Infrastructure Fund (LEAP) of Japan International Cooperation Agency.
